Latest BMAF News: "MASTERS AGE

At the IAAF Congress in Daegu on 23 August, Delegates voted overwhelmingly in favour of recognising athletes (male and female) aged 35 years and over as Masters in all events i.e. all Stadia and all Non Stadia events, thus reversing the decision taken in Berlin four years ago. This rule becomes effective from 1st November 2011."

Veterans steal Calabar Mobil Championships show: "But as the trials dragged to a close it was the veterans who provided the laughter. The recently retired, old and young former greats filed out under the heavy rain and it was quite a sight as worn out and over weight muscles flexed on the tracks.

Former male athletes like Bruce Ijirigho, Dan, Ogidi, Sunday Bada, Henry Amike, Yusfu Alli, Charlton Ehizulen, Lee Evans, Adu Uruemu, Lati Obisean, Gabriel Opuana and a long list of others took to the tracks. Some guys were just running back wards, the ground was shaking for some others. Ogidi captured the atmosphere aptly, when he said.

“It was just like my heart wanted to explode! My hamstring was threatening to tear apart and boy, I have to advice myself to take it slowly,”

Mountain running has been part of the WMA for many years now thanks to an agreement with the World Mountain Running Association and their president Bruno Gozzelino. The local organizing committee headed by member of the Italian Parliament and Olympic medalist, Manuela Di Centa, and supported by the minister of sport for the region, Elio De Anna, offered an unparalleled support team for the athletes from the opening ceremonies to the awards and close Saturday night.
