Best WMA Male Athlete 2011: Ron Robertson (NZL)

Best WMA Male Athlete 2011: Ron Robertson (NZL): "Ron has no scientific training plan. He just gets out and runs five or six times a week for 40 to 60 minutes depending how he feels. He does do these runs at fairly high intensity, though.

He regards himself as lucky to have not had many injuries during his career, but admints that these days the "niggles" take longer to shake off. In spite of his great performances in Sacramento, Ron still believes there is room for improvement with more racing and training. Given his comfortable winning margins, this is bad news for his competitors.

Congratulation to Ron Robertson WMA 2011 Best Male Master

Power Sprinting

Power Sprinting: "Maximum strength – Developed using heavy loads (80% 1 rep max) lifted between 1-5 repetitions with long recovery between sets.Explosive Power – Loads are lifted that allow the athlete to optimise power output (30-80% 1 rep max). Exercises using both heavy and light loading can be combined to form a ‘complex’ (e.g. heavy squat, followed immediately by explosive squat jumps).

Quickness – Plyometrics (hops, jumps, bounding) can help an athlete develop the speed of movement required during sprinting."

Practical training

Practical training: "That's certainly a great question - and one that younger runners can relate to as well. Distance runners of any age can improve their performances dramatically by upgrading running velocity at VO2max, economy, lactate threshold, flexibility, range of motion, strength, and speed. The last two factors - strength and power - are particularly important for older runners, since muscle mass and overall neuromuscular function tend to decline with age.

World Masters Athletics: "WMA Anti-Doping News (31.10.2011)
Two positive cases were recorded at the WMA Championships in Sacramento (USA).
WMA has been officially informed by USADA (responsible for testing during the championship) that the athletes Byron Duhon (USA, M 50) and Pavel Fencl (CZE, M 65) have been tested positive.

1. Byron Duhon accepted a sanction for a refusal to comply with the sample collection process and has been suspended by USATF from October 21, 2011 for two year.

2. The sample of Pavel Fencl contained various prohibited substances (Epimetendiol, Hydrochlorothiazide, etc) and he has been suspended by the Cesky Atleticky Svaz for two years starting from August 15, 2011.

This now concluded all anti-doping testing matters from the WMA 2011 Championship in Sacramento.
